New York City Fire Department to Conduct Disaster Training at Guardian Centers

PERRY, Ga.--()--Guardian Centers, the most realistic disaster training center in the United States, will host the FDNY All Hazard Incident Management Team Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2015 for a multi-agency disaster response training event.

Guardian Centers was conceived, designed and purpose built to help first responders from different agencies work together to act swiftly and decisively in times of crisis. The 830-acre disaster preparedness and tactical training campus offers a realistic and modern 75-acre dynamic metroplex, creating a single site to test plans, people and equipment, eliminating the need for multiple drills and multiple sites.

Recent seismic studies suggest that a pattern of subtle but active faults increases the risk of a major earthquake in New York City. To prepare, this 48-hour training exercise will challenge more than 400 of the most experienced first responders in the nation, orchestrating an effective response to a major earthquake at the local, state and federal levels.

“It’s extremely beneficial to have access to a state-of-the-art facility like Guardian Centers to test and validate our response to a disaster before lives are on the line,” said Joe Downey, Battalion Chief of the FDNY. “To be able to bring together responders from the local, state and federal levels in one place to work together and coordinate our efforts will undoubtedly hone our abilities to respond quickly when called upon.”

“We are proud to be of service to the FDNY All Hazard Incident Management Team in one of our largest exercises to date,” said Geoff Burkart, founder and CEO of Guardian Centers. “With the challenges facing the world today responding agencies need to be prepared to work seamlessly and coordinate their response to natural and man-made disasters. We offer that realistic environment to help them plan and execute so they are prepared for the challenges that arise.”

Aegex Technologies will provide their intrinsically safe Windows 10 tablets and enterprise-grade applications to provide real-time mobile connectivity among all personnel involved in a mission-critical operation. These tablets are incapable of igniting flammable materials that may be present in hazardous locations and will be used during the FDNY Incident Management exercises to:

  • Enhance situational awareness with GIS-based data collection and transmission
  • Improve incident response with first responder health monitoring
  • Organize real-time triage for dynamic care
  • Manage hazardous material and safety plans
